Josephine Garnem

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Josephine joined Healey International Relief Foundation as a board member in 2020 and assumed the role of  Executive Director in July 2023. With a wealth of experience spanning over 25 years, she has established herself as a seasoned community mobilizer and expert in the field of humanitarian aid.

Having lived and worked in diverse regions such as Africa, the Middle East, Asia and within local communities in the USA, Josephine possesses a profound understanding of the complex landscapes of relief and development efforts. Her extensive work in Maryland since 2007 has focused on empowering immigrant communities, tackling health disparities, promoting literacy, and facilitating workforce development. In her capacity as a liaison to the continental African diaspora for the County government, she has fostered strong connections and advocated for their unique needs.  Josephine has also served as the director for a collective impact initiative, demonstrating her commitment to driving positive change on a larger scale.

Passionate about promoting peace and social justice, Josephine leads interfaith dialogues and engages in advocacy work both nationally and internationally. She possesses a deep appreciation for cultural competence, which enables her to effectively bridge divides and foster understanding.

She actively serves on the boards of the Center for Action and Contemplation, Michael and Mauritia Pacta Foundation, Carpe Diem Arts and is on the National Council for Pax Christi USA.
