Health Systems Strengthening

Healey International Relief Foundation currently supports four hospitals and ten clinics throughout Sierra Leone. Known as the Charity Health Network, these healthcare facilities are providing critical services to at-risk populations.

Health services offered include surgeries, primary care, maternal and child health, general disease treatment and critically needed immunizations.

Sierra Leoneans face one of the most dire healthcare systems in the world. It is especially concerning for women and children with maternal and infant mortality rates among the highest in the world.  The most recent Sierra Leone Maternal Death Surveillance and Response Report, states that the estimated lifetime risk of a woman dying of maternal causes is currently 1 in 17.  The under-5 mortality rate is 109 deaths per 1,000 live births.  Compare this to the U.S. under-5 mortality rate of 7 deaths per 1,000.

Healey International Relief Foundation currently supports four hospitals and ten clinics throughout Sierra Leone. Known as the Charity Health Network, these healthcare facilities are providing critical services to at-risk populations. Our estimated catchment area is nearly 390,000 individuals of that 85,000 are women of childbearing age and 68,000 are children under the age of five.

Health services offered at the facilities include surgeries, primary care, maternal and child health, general disease treatment and critically needed immunizations. To support these services HealeyIRF supplies medicines, medical supplies, and medical equipment. To enhance quality of care, we provide funding for capacity training for health care staff

Current Facilities in the Charity Health Network

HealeyIRF also shares medicines, medical supplies, and medical equipment with other healthcare facilities throughout Sierra Leone. The need is so great and only by working together can we improve the health outcomes for vulnerable populations.
