Hope Empower Sustain
The Healey International Relief Foundation is a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life of vulnerable individuals and families in Sierra Leone who have long been affected by war, Ebola, and adverse socioeconomic conditions
Our Story
Our story starts with a friendship across the ocean between the late Father Dan Sullivan in the U.S. and the Archbishop of Sierra Leone, Joseph Ganda. Meeting near the end of the decade long civil war in Sierra Leone the two set out on a mission to help those left homeless, without food, clean water, and health care. Through this friendship the Healey family first learned about the plight of those suffering in Sierra Leone. Formed in 2001, Healey International Relief Foundation’s project reach continues to grow, and we strive to fulfill Fr. Dan’s dream of turning scars into stars.
Our Work
Our projects in Sierra Leone are focused on helping those most in need by strengthening the healthcare system through our Charity Health Network, caring for orphan and vulnerable children, and providing disaster relief and recovery. We are committed to developing programs jointly with local and international partners to achieve sustainable results. Our work also supports crucial Sustainable Development Goals, such as good-health and well-being, quality education, no poverty and zero hunger.
Our Team
Our leadership, staff and board members bring years of experience to our work in Sierra Leone. Through combined backgrounds in business, health, government, international development, and philanthropy our team provides unique approaches and a variety of skill sets to program development. We are committed to helping those in need in Sierra Leone and ensure the goal of our Founder Robert Healey, Sr. to self-empower people and give them a “hand up instead of a hand-out.”
